As is always the case on this family-fun occasion, the well-tested cycling and run/walk routes will suit every entrant’s fitness level. But this year, festivities will carry on beyond the finish line. The continued support of local businesses and individuals has enabled organisers to spoil participants with medals, buffs and magazines as keepsake reminders of their part in an event that plays out in the scenic surrounds and streets of Great Brak River – the pretty seaside village that’s an integral part of ICONIC Mossel Bay’s now famous Route 12. Our Big Walk is the only of its kind hosted in the Garden Route 2. The BIG WALK coincides with National Disability Rights Awareness Month which is from 3 November to 3 December. 3 December is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and is also celebrated as National Disability Rights Awareness Day. 3. The event is organised by the npo Binah and Legacy Centre (a centre for children with special needs) – both organisations initiated by parents of an autistic boy. The Van Deventer family saw the need for one on one tutoring for children in a familial environment. 4.
