Connect with fellow great-outdoors fans at Grootbrak Grabadoo ‘23
Grootbrak Grabadoo is a Garden Route institution and is held for the 20th time on Saturday December 30. The event offers mountain bike routes of four different distances as well as a fun walk through town. Billed the ultimate family fun day by locals and visitors to Iconic Mossel Bay, the experience leaves cyclists and walkers/runners with well-deserved memories to last a lifetime.
Route coordinator Alewijn Dippenaar says participants can expect a top-class mountain bike family fun day with breath-taking tracks through some of the Garden Route’s most spectacular floral kingdom. “Cyclists can choose between tracks of 15km, 36km, 58km, and 72km, while the fun walk is done over a distance of 4.8km.”
Runners, walkers, families and their pets are invited to participate in the walk, which shows off the beauty of the coastal hamlet’s river mouth and marina. For those preferring bicycle tyres to takkie-clad feet, expertly laid out cycling trails have been tried and tested for maximum enjoyment by riders of all skills levels.
In the run-up to the 2023 event, the village will again spring into action as race day draws near. Grootbrak Grabadoo marshals and officials are recruited from local community organisations and sports clubs, while many residents and businesses contribute in their own unique way. The aim is to involve and empower this special community, and to boost Great Brak’s economy.
The action starts at 6am on Saturday December 30 at Great Brak Sport Grounds in Lang Street, opposite Peperboom Restaurant. Online entries close by December 29 but pre-entries can be made at the sports grounds from 8am to 5pm on the 30th, and late entries on the 30th from 6-6:30am. Cyclists, remember: no helmet, no ride.
This year’s Grabadoo is generously supported by Property Connect, with a handful of businesses from Great-Brak and elsewhere on the Garden Route having pledged their support for an event that’s invariably marked ‘unmissable’ on festive season calendars.
